Rt Rev Jas H Otey University Place Franklin Co Tenn Dear Sir,

I have received your letter as Chairman of the Executive Committee inviting me to be present on the 10th inst at University Place to wit ness the ceremony of the laying of the corner stone of the principal building of the University of the South.

It would give me great pleasure to be with you on that most interesting occasion but my professional engage ments in the Supreme Court now in session at this place makes it impossible.

I sincerely hope that those of you who are actively engaged in this great and good work may not only live to see the completion of your building
