I have the honor to acknowledge
an invitation from you to be present on the occasion
of the laying of the Corner Stone of "The University
of the South" on the 10th Inst.

Entertaining the opinion that I do of
the importance of the Institution, it would
give me great pleasure to witness the
Contemplated Cermonies--but a pressure
of business on hand, together with sickness
in my family, precludes the possibility of
my attendance
