On returning to Bal[t?] last after a few [-weeks-?] days absence I found your kind invitation to attend the laying of the corner Stone of your new University - which I have great pleasure in accepting but as I am called away to Norfolk for a day or two to prepare for commencing a new Episcopal Church there - I may be delayed somewhat in reaching Tennessee - & therefore enclose one or two letters which have been kindly furnished me by friends - for your perusal - I can obtain any number of these recommendations - should the Committee desire them -
