I have in my custody most of the important papers of the Univ. Also most all of the written documents of the Diocese since its organization together with the journals of the Gen. Cou & of the different Dioceses bound and are forwd -

I write to advise with you as to the best method of placing these valuables in a place of greater security.

My own books and manuscripts the result of many years of toil must remain where they are

and run the risk of destruction to get them away & if the necessity is laid upon me to become a [] use the fellowship of suffering with others, true hearts, I shall count it an []. All I have shall be cheerfully laid upon the altar. but of those other books & papers of which I am made the custodian & responsible for their safekeeping it becomes my duty to use every possible effort to put them in a place of safety. The fate of Jackson, Tenn (if reports are true) teaches us what we have to expect at their hands should they ever get here only as raiders. David Pise
