Dr Rubin mentioned that assafoetida was worn in a bag around
the neck to ward off flu. "My parents used to do that to me
back in 1917-18 during the flu. The used to put assafoetida
and garlic in a bag around the neck." Children used to wear
this to school, he remembers.
