My dear Sir,
When I was at Sewanee last summer, I heard un-officially, that a lot had been assigned me at Sewanee by the Trustees of the University of the South-- My daughter in law Mrs Hamilton Polk may be compelled to leave her present residence, Hartford, Conn - & seek a more con-

nial climate -- I should like to be able to offer her some inducements to make Sewanee her home & if I knew any thing definitely of the order of the Trustees on my behalf might perhaps offer [?] her- may I therefore trouble you to inform me, whether any place was assigned me, & on what terms it is to be held, whether in the event of my building, or any of my children, we would be compelled to receive boarders - etc-
