Newport, R. Island, Sep 13, 1859 To the Hon.

George M. Dallas, [magistrate]

Dear Sir, By the steamer of this week, I have the pleasure of transmitting to you a letter from [Gen. Gass,] upon the subject of my communications to you last week. I beg leave to [subject] to this a copy of the negotiation under which I have sought your friendly co-operation in any endeavors to accomplish the objects contemplated by it. The addition to the universities already named in my [recent] note the publication of which are deemed desirable for our purposes, I desire add that of Dublin. Whatever materials may fall in your way calculated in your judgment to aid our decision we shall be happy to recover with the greatest response.

(Resolutions Beersheba Springs, Tenn: Aug, 13, 1859 Resolved: That the Rt. Rev Bishop Otey be requested to write to Mr Dallas, for publications connected with the University of London, many other institutions of learning in the United Kingdom which may be of service to the committee on the Constitution.
