New-York Sept. 6. 1859.

To the Lord Bishop of Edinburgh.

Rt. Rev & Dear Sir,

I have been charged with the duty of asking your aid and influence to procure copies of the statutes & regulations which govern the Universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow. They are respectfully solicited from the authorities of these venerable seats of learning, that they may assist the Committee of a University, in this country, established on a large scale, in draughting a constitution and laws for its government.

Any parcel or packet with which we may be favored, in response to this application,may be placed in the hands of the U. S. Consul, at Liverpool, to be forwarded to the U. S.

I have directed two sets of the "Wind & Ocean Current Charts," of Capt M. F. Maury, to be forwarded to Scotland one set marked "University of Edinburgh" - the other to the "Lord Bp. of Edinburgh." They are both at the disposal of your Lordship, to do with them as you please. They will be sent thro' the U. S. Consul at Liverpool or it may be through Mr Keith Johnson (Geographer etc?) Edinburgh
