[To: The Executive Committee of the University of the South From: Courtland and Co. Oct. 5, 1860]

To the Executive Committee of the University of the South, Tenn.

Gentlemen, It is with pleasure that we recommend to your consideration Mr. E. G. Lind, who as an architect, business man and gentleman, has given us great satisfaction. Our intercourse with him has always been agreeable, and the building erected for us by him and his partner is of itself quite a sufficient evidence of his ability. Our experience has taught us that it is important to have a correct as well as a good architect -- Believing that Mr. Lind combines both to an eminent degree, our wish is that your Committee may be so fortunate as to have his services.

We are, gentlemen, Very Respectfully Yr mo. obt. servants Courtland and Co.
