Your invitation on behalf of
the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of the "University
of the South" to attend the ceremony of the laying the
Corner Stone of the University at University Place on
the 10th inst. has been just recd by me: I thank
you for the invitation, & regret that I am unable
to attend. I am now holding my regular
Court at Franklin, & will not be able to
leave it. With much esteem I remain
