Rt Rev'd & Dear Sir

It is from no lack
of desire that I am now engaged
in sending you word that I will
not be in attendance at the laying
of the Corner Stone of the "University of
the South" for no where could I
more willingly make a trip, were it in
my power.

Mr. H H {illegible: Lorriher?} and
Dr. F. O. Ticknor also of this place
desire me to express their regrets
that circumstances prevent their
attendance.
