Your circular inviting me
to be present at the laying of the Cor-
ner Stone of the University of the South
has just reached me here, forwarded
to me from several different post of-
fices. As you request an answer as to
whether I shall attend or not, I regret
that your note did not reach me ear-
lier. I very much regret that the state
of my health, for which I am under treat-
ment here, will prevent me from attending
on this interesting and important occasion.
