Your kind invitation
dated the 5th ins and postmarked the
11th {illegible} reached me to day.

It would have given me real
pleasure to have joined in hopefully
laying the corner stone of your university
but I must forego their pleasure as
I promised to be present at the annual
meeting of the Board of Missions in
New Haven to be held on the 10th prox --
