I have had the pleasure to-day
to receive your communication of the 5 ult
accompanying an invitation to be present at the
ceremony of laying the corner stone of the Univ-
-ersity of the South.

Highly appreciating your kindness in this
regard, & is a source of regret that duties of
an imperative character will deny me the
pleasure of availing myself of your invitation
