an invitation from you to be present on the occasion
of the laying of the Corner Stone of "the University
of the South" on the 10th Inst.

Entertaining the opinion that I do of
the importance of the Institution, it would
give me great pleasure to witness the
contemplated ceremonies -- but a pressure
of business on hand, together with sickness
in my family, precludes the possibility of
my attendance
