Rt. Rev'd. & Dear Sir,
Your favor of the 14th ult.
has just come to hand, and I very much
regret to say, in answer to your invitation
to be present at the laying of the Corner Stone
of the University of the South, that I shall be
compelled to forego the pleasure.
With best wishes for the success of the
noble enterprise in which you and your worthy
co-laborers are so earnestly enlisted, I remain,
with much esteem,
Truly Yours
Otis Hackett
The Rt. Rev'd. Jas H. Otey D.D.
