The
invitation from the Executive Committee
of the Board of Trustees of the University of
the South to be present at the Laying of the
Corner Stone on the 10th day of October is
just received by me.

I am truly obliged to the
Committee for their kind attention in
extending the invitation. I should very
much like to be present on that interesting
occasion. It will not, however, be in
my power to take the journy at that
time. I shall be with you in my best
wishes and prayers for the success of the
grand and most important enterprise, which
will then be inaugurated. I am very Respectfully
