In answer to your letter of June 21, offering me, on the part fo the Ex. Com. of the University the position of Head Master of the Perparatory dept.. I have the honor to say, after personal conference with yourself & others of the Ex. Com. that I accept the position on the terms indicated viz: to take effect after January 1st next.
The tenor of your letter & of the conversation held lead me to think that my service may be dispensed with until about the middle of March next. An assistant

being placed in charge. This would conform [??lf] to my probable duties here & may I hope be practicable.
I will assist in making inquiry after a suitable person to act as Asst. & communicate to you, should you desire it, the name of any one I can hear of whom it might be desirable to engage.
