I had started back they had me seeing snakes everywhere. Coming home I met a few kids that pushed my bike up some of the hills. When they left a wallaby hunter stopped me & demanded tobacco. Naturally I refused, though wished I hadn't - the bike wouldn't go fast enough. Then in my hurry I missed the track and was utterly lost for an hour. I scared myself as often as I did wallabies, and that was often enough. I ended up at camp only an hour off sundown, having had no dinner and only one drink all day.
The rest of the week has been quite exciting too. Yesterday through the binoculars I watched a pack of hungry dogs kill a wallaby, natives spearing fish, and women toiling in Morea's gardens. Except for Morea's wife, every other woman does the hard work while her hubby sists & watches. Friday night the villagers are coming up to give us a sendoff. I must try & catch a few goannas for their supper or they'll go hungry. Our diet is 75 % fruit now & 25 % vegetable or fish. Some of this letter may not make sense, but practically all the time some nigger is yabbering at me & I have to think what he is talking of.
