Today has left me frustrated. A whole day spent travelling to confer with my forward company for 15 short minutes. The rest of the time I was cramped up in a barge in the foulest of weather. It was a releif [relief] to get home & discard my soaked clothing. I have been upset too by a fateful blow to one of our men, & the Jap-brought dysentery gnawing at my stomach seems to fill me with disgust & hate. There's nothing that stifles romantic thoughts more effectively than a continual cramp in the tummy.

21st. I'm a fool to let work take up all day as it has lately. It frightens me to realise I'm writing so seldom. The strangest things will happen & upset my plans. Last night I arrived back from a long trip in torrential rain. I lent my driver a change of clothes, ate a bite, & diligently lit the lamp - got out pen & pad. A rain soaked driver
