Balfour He received a letter of thanks from H.R.H. the Duke of York. owing to family misfortunes he was your Excellency Necessitated to sell out and in three years after Died in consequence of a severe wound not properly cured Leaving my unfortunate mother with four of us - then boys Totally unprovided for The late Earl of Warwick your Excellency who intimately knew my father represented my unfortunate Mothers situation to His Majesty. and his Majesty, your Excellency bound my three brothers to a profession and allows my mother a pension Not from any premeditated guilt or vice, but unfortunately purchasing two pair of boats which had been stolen I was your Excellency Banished for 14 years: though I received a Character of honesty and Integrity of twenty years _which I am proud to assert my conduct now Certifys Miss Newman and her Nephew Genl. Sir Chs. Greville mp. paid my wife and two children passage. who arrived at this colony five weeks ago_ I assure your Excellency

They are entirely destitute. Sir Chs Greville I believe either went personally or wrote in my behalf to your Excellency in England and I have a letter to your Excellency which I take the liberty of enclosing from Sir Chs. And it was Sir on the entire reliance of your goodness to enable me {through his recommendation} to provide for my children that he paid their passage If I had my freedom your Excellency I could obtain good situations to enable me to provide for my family at present: Sir we are miserable. [...] your Excellency is an amiable well educated woman and has left a home and affluence to follow me in my Misery For her sake _ for the sake of my poor unprotected Babes, as the son of an old veteran officer whose relations are all officers in the army and Navy - and for the sake of that good conduct mantained by me previous to my lamentable and degraded fall. And Since I implore your Excellency to give a situation that I may be able to give my children bread to eat. For my conduct in this colony I beg Sir to refer your Excellency to the following Gentlemen T. A. Hely Esqu. P.P. [percivale] Suptor. of Convicts - Walker Esqu. Surgeon Pitt Street Sydney Leiut. Shadford of the Sixth. Confident Sir they will testify I am Deserving that Kindness your Excellency [cansecure]
