They are entirely destitute. Sir Chs Greville I believe either
went personally or wrote in my behalf to your Excellency in
England and I have a letter to your Excellency which I take
the liberty of enclosing from Sir Chs.
And it was Sir on the entire reliance of your goodness to
enable me {through his recommendation} to provide for my
children that he paid their passage
If I had my freedom your Excellency I could obtain good
situations to enable me to provide for my family
at present: Sir we are miserable.
[...] your Excellency is an amiable well educated
woman and has left a home and affluence to
follow me in my Misery
For her sake _ for the sake of my poor unprotected
Babes, as the son of an old veteran officer
whose relations are all officers in the army
and Navy - and for the sake of that good conduct
mantained by me previous to my lamentable
and degraded fall. And Since I implore your
Excellency to give a situation that I may
be able to give my children bread to eat.
For my conduct in this colony I beg Sir to refer your
Excellency to the following Gentlemen
T. A. Hely Esqu. P.P. [percivale] Suptor. of Convicts
- Walker Esqu. Surgeon Pitt Street Sydney
Leiut. Shadford of the Sixth.
Confident Sir they will testify I am
Deserving that Kindness your Excellency [cansecure]
