that Mr Holmes was killed the
first day he went out to shoot, and
consequently left no birds, skins, or
curiosities

5th ..... In answer to the con-
cluding part of the 5th Par. of
Your letter, I have the honor to state
that hitherto, it has been the
practice at this Settlement to
forward witnesses in a different
Vessel from the prisoner to be tried,
which proceeded, I am told, from
there having at one time arranged
to give such evidence as would
acquit the prisoner.

6th ..... It is with much regret
I have to report the murder of
Mathew Gallagher, a prisoner of
the Crown by [underlined] (Pa'k McGuire), also
an attempt made by [underlined] (John Bloher),
to murder Thomas O'Mara, the
prisoners and witnesses in both
which cases, I have forwarded by
the present opportunity to Sydney,
the instructions detailed in the
6th Par. of Your letter, having
