............................................................ --- Brisbane Town 19th May 1832.

[from left margin] Robert May -- "Free" -- ... Vagrancy (a repeated offence) ...

Mr Peter Spicer, Superintendent of
Convicts being duly Sworn, states, that on the 14th Instant
the Prisoner completed his Month of Confinement, which
he had been serving for Vagrancy, and by direction of
Lieut't Harvey in the absence of the Commandant,
Evidence directed the Prisoner to go to work with the
other Free Men in the Garden; the Principal Overseer
however reported that Prisoner refused to go to work, and
Evidence therefore directed that he should receive no
Rations: in the evening of the same day, the Prisoner
came to Evidence, and said that he had not been
accustomed to Field-labour, but that he was willing
to write in any of the Public Offices, and requested
Evidence to speak to the Commandant on the subject,
which he accordingly did; but not being considered
worthy to be employed is that capacity, the prisoner
has not since performed any work, and has received
no Rations, but has been wandering about the the
Settlement, without any visible means of existing
honestly. ... Evidence further adds, that when
apprehended yesterday, the Prisoner was extremely
violent and abusive. ....
