written as my explanation
to the Governor General for
not reporting, before that
date, on the complaint
made by Mr St George Gore -
As that minute is set
out in the Petition it is
unnecessery for me to do
more, than to assure
[crossed out] (Your) [added above, in pencil] (His) Excellency, that I
was under the conviction
that Mr St. George Gore was
the person, referred to as
having called at my
Office and of whom Mr
Merewether spoke to me,
but as Mr St George Gore
states to the contrary, I
must now conjecture that
it was another Gentleman
of the same name (probably
Mr St John Gore), whom
I mistook for him -
