Your letter of the 21st ...
(No. 286) ... May last, addressed to Mr Josuah [sic]
J. Whitting ... Drayton, informing him
that in Consequence of the non payment
on the 5th March last of the 2nd
Years [sic] rent of his Station Called East
Haldane, the same had become forfeited,
has been forwarded to us by that Gentleman
with a request that we would explain
to you the Circumstances from which the
Nonpayment has arisen, and apply
for an Avoidance of the forfeiture. -

Mr Whittings [sic] former Agent has
gone to England without having any
information or memorandum with
us as to this payment, and we were
in consequence ignorant that Mr
Whitting had any Rent or Licence to
pay at any other than the usual
Annual payment in September. - Mr
Whitting had assumed that we would
have some Notice of the payment, in
which Case it would have been duly
met, and we would humbly represent
