Seattle Wash Feb 28th 1894 Superintendent of Public Park Report To The Honorable The Board of Park Commissioners Gentlemen The month of February was the least advantageous of the winter months for grading. hence the team work upon Denny Park was short, labor upon this Park consisted in leading surface and seapage water away from labor field. the drainage and irrigation plans are postponed on account of the line of seepage seams in the ground are not yet fully determinable, and will not be until the Play-stead is graded - from the main bank. Kinnear Park had some manure drawn for the extended planting areas which are being continued most of the native shrubs have been replanted to thicken the boundry belt and make room for the now stock to be planted into permanent position The other works consisted in extracting noxious weeds and grasses from the lawns and top dressing some of the latter with composted manure. beside the general maintenance of repair of walks raking off leaves etc everything is in readiness to plant the new plantings The Park has no suitable tool room 1

It was determined to place a tool room below the bluff which was deferred as it was suspected that the lower portion of the bluff would slide towards the bay. This, as has been repeated before is the case and no safe place for a tool room can be secured below the Bluff. the most economical tool room that can be obtained is by raising the present Rustic Summer House 9 feet connect the House floor proper with the upper bank by a sash and bridge The tool room should be enclosed with 2 cedar plank and eventualy rocked on the outside to correspond with the rockery now surrounding the summer House. By elevating the same its sightlyness is much enhanced and will raiseit out of the low position it occupies in relation to the surrounding ground. This work can be accomplished by our own men. and if done should be done at once before the planting is done. The nursery work consisted beside the ground care of Green House and Hot beds - seeding and transplanting of the removal to Kinnear Park of 700 tree shrub and vine plants - and the ploughing harrowing of new ground for planting out the replanting - some additional help is needed for a while to finish the replanting. 2

3 The department distribute the extra 100 Park Reports to the Horticultural Botanic and governmental Institutions both in the United States and abroad in order to enable them to consult the list of plants now on hand i this department before they send their plants or seeds in exchange - thus avoiding the reduplicating the same plants Many Park Departments and other institutioin will not receive. This plant list given in your last annual report as 100 copies was insufficient
