Seattle, Wash.,July,16th, 1890.
To the Mayor and City Council of the City of Seattle.
Gentlemen:-
I earnestly, petition your Honorable Body, to grant me
the privilege of erecting a Street Clock in front on my place of
business, at 604 Front Street. The said Clock to stand on an Iron
Piller, 15 feet high, 14 inches square at the base, and to stand on the
Edge of the side-walk, near the Curb. the siad Clock to cost not less
that $600.00 to be a reliable Time-keeper, and an ornament to the
City.

We, the undersigned Merchants doing business on Front Street, Seattle,
cordially endorse the proposition of Mr Basye, regarding the same, as
an ornament and a public necessity, as an instrument to keep correct
time.
