December 7 1893: A petition was submitted requesting that street lighting be installed in Edgewater, a community north of Lake Union. The Committee on City Lights, Committee on Street Lights, and the Board of Public Works reported favorably on the request. The citizens stated that, like those "in our enterprising suburban town Fremont" they wanted "a lamp to our feet and a light to our path."
