To the
Honorable Board of Public Works of the City of Seattle, Washington
Gentlemen:-
We the undersigned tax-payers and citizens of the city
of Seattle do hereby petition you to so conduct the work on the Front
Street
Sewer that it will not be necessary to the Front Street Cable
Railway Company
to cease operation during the construction of same.
You will at once see the great loss and inconvenience that we
will be at, in case see the great loss and inconvenience.that we
will be at, in case the Street Railway ceases operation. the merchants
along the line will sustain a very heavy and serious loss in that their
present patrons will do their buying elsewhere, and once in the habit
of going elsewhere for thier supplies, it will be a long time before
they will again return to Front Street for supplies.
The property holders in North Seattle will suffer, and are now
suffering a serious loss on account of th eir renters leaving their
present houses by rent homes on Street Railway lines that do not shut
down.
It will be very expensive to secure the services of physicians,
who will have to hire a carriage and take hours to reach their patients.
It is hardly necessary for us to show you all of the reasons for not
forcing the Street Railway Company to cease running cars. You will,
no doubt, appreciate the many and serious drawbacks to such a course.

believe that it is not necessary to build the sewer in the center of
the Street Railway tracks, and manyof us know from experience of other
cities that it is not usual to build so large a sewer between the tracks
of a St Ry Co thereby shutting down the road when it is practicable
to build the sewer on the side of the Street. We sincerely trust that
