To the [Hon?] New Common Council of Seattle
Gentlemen: Your petitioner res-
pectfully represents that he is the Con-
tactor on the grade of Sixth Street be-
tween Pike and Spring Streets; that
the contract time expires on the first
day of October; but it has been im-
possible to get lumber at any price
for the sidewalks on said Street; petitioner
made a contract for the lumber over a
month past and has not been able to
get it and will not get it until about
October first - Your petitioner is there-
fore compelled to request that your
honorable body pass an order extending
the time for the performance of said
grading contract for one month, to wit:
until the 1st day of November next
Your petitioner asks that this reasonable
request be granted and such order made

How does one handle printed stationary headings? Are they put in as part of the text? At the beginning before the hand written portion?
For transcribing, how does one handle words that are broken up due to space by the original writer?
Great questions! Words in stationary letterhead do not need to be transcribed.
For words broken up as originally written, it works fine to just transcribe the word in full.
