The Committee on Fire & water are of the opinion that the plan of cistern proposed herein is not a proper or advisable method to adopt, and would recommend that the written petition be rejected

Mayor and Common Council of the City of Seattle The under signed property holders and residents of North Seattle apprehensive of the risk and immenent danger. our property is subject to from fire. Would respectfully call the attention to the vast amount o of money that had been invested in buildings in that portion of our City laying between Depot and Harrison, Oak and Willow Sts which has no protection and liable to share the scenes of the 6th of at any moment. We therefore pray that your Hon Body will give the matter the consideration demands And would respectfully suggest that in the absence of hydrants that two or more cisterns be immediatly built for the protection of our property in case of fire It has also been suggested to your petitioners that if a

large cistern was constructed on Oak St immediatly north of Harrison (the soil being of a Springy nature) the cistern would be self sustaining and afford the inhabitants in that vacinity the necessry relief for all time.
