21 Board of Aldermen of the City of Seattle

Be it remembered that on this the 29th day of October A. D. 1890 the Board of Aldermen of the City of Seattle meets pursuant to adjournment and after recess: in the New City Hall.

Prest Geo. W. Hall in the Chair. At roll call the following members are present Bogardus Holbrook Korn Miller Pontius Snyder Wald Wilcox Mr. Prest H. W. Miller City Clerk:

The following proceedings are had. Minutes of the last Meeting read and approved.

The President excused Alderman Bogardus for the evening on account of sickness in his family.

Petition of Jane White et al for repairs to 8th Street made necessary by defective grading, of said 8th St. near []Yesler]] Avenue. Read and referred to the Street Committee.

Petition of Mrs. Lou Graham for widening of sidewalk on 4th and Washington Sts. Read and referred to the Street Committee.

Petition of Tuen M. Sing for permit to run a Laundry at the intersection of Commercial St. and track of the Terminal Railway. Read and referred to the Com. on Health & Police.

Petition of S. G. Benedict et al for lights corner Stewart and 21st Street. Read and referred to the Com. on Street Lights.

Petition of G. F. Ware et al for st. lights on the cross sts. from Kentucky to Elliott Sts.and Broadway St. Read and ref to St. Light Committee.

Appraised by the City and its duly qualified appraisers. Motion was carried.

A request by Alderman Wilcox that the President request Prest. Jones to call a Special Meeting of the H of D for Oct. 25th 1890 to take immediate action in regard to the Rhinehart Matter was Complied with.

On Motion a recess was taken until Wednesday Oct. 29th 1890.

Correction of Omission B of A Bill #4

An Ordinance amending ordinance Sec. 2 of Ordinance #1520 Entitled An ordinance providing fort the grading of Water Street.

Reported favorably by the Judiciary Committee and given 3rd Reading passing by the following vote In favor Bogardus, Holbrook, Korn, Miller, Pontius Snyder, Wald, Wilcox, Mr. President - 9. Against - None.

Petition of Geo. J. Milton from position as Building Inspector read & ref ordered filed.

Petition's were received from S. Elliott Thos. R. Hughes, Aggasiz and McConnell. Thos. Jones Michel and Damerque for Liquor license. Read and referred to the Com. on License & Revenue.

Petition of Geo. E. Rowell for position of Janitor. Read & referred to the Special Com. on Janitor.

Report of Justice of the Peace Miller for the month of October 1890. Read & ref to the Com. on Health and Police.

Report of Police Judge Rivers for the month of October 1890 Read & referred to Street Com.

Comunication from E. Anderson Contractor regarding street signs: Read & ref to Street Com.

Communication from N. H. Brosen for claim for damages. Read & referred to the Judiciary Com.

23 Board of Aldermen of the City of Seattle.

Alderman Korn made the following Motion: That a Committee of two be appointed to ascertain what arrangements can be made to erect a suitable Furnace to burn the garbage of the City and that the House of Delegates be requested to appoint a committee to act in conjunction with the Committee of the Board of Aldermen in the Matter. Carried and sent to the H of D for concurrent action thereon. The president appointed assist Special Committee Messrs Korn and Pontius

Joint Resolution No. 1 In regard to Police Judge's rooms laid over from last meeting: was taken up and after 3rd reading was passed by the following vote in favor Holbrook Korn Miller Pontius Snyder Wald Wilcox and Mr. Prest. Against =None.

B of A Bill No. 2 An Ordinance to prescribe the duties of the Fire Commissioner and to more fully organize the Fire Department was returned from the H of D by request for correction: The Bill corrected and referred to the Judiciary Committee.

B of A Bill No. 3: An Ordinance to create the Office of Janitor and to prescribe the duties of same. Passed the H of D as amended Oct. 24th 1890 and returned to B of A for concurrent action: Read as amended and passed by the following vote in favor Holbrook Korn Miller Pontius Snyder Wald Wilcox Mr. Prest. Against None.
