5 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Oct 14, 1881 Be it remembered that on this the 14th day of October 1881 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment The following Officers are present, to wit: His Honor the Acting Mayor John Collins and Concilmen Thos Clancy, Wm A Jennings, John Keenan, Moses Keyzer and Chas McDonald Thereupon the following proceedings are had: The following claims having been duly audited by the Council and ordered paid by Warrents drawn upon the funds and in the amounts following to wit: Road Fund Robt Russell Hauling lumber $5.50 Moses Keezer Extra work on 8th St Sidewalk $6.00 Fire Fund John Maginnis Engine Steward $4.00

And now the City Surveyor makes his report showing that Moses Keezer the Contractor has fully completed the 8th Street side walk under Ordinance No 2 43 according to the plans and specifications thereupon it is ordered that a Warrant be drawn in favor of Moses Keezer in the sum of $523.00 on the fund to pay for said improvement Ordered that a Warrant be drawn infavor of F H Whitworth in the sum of $58.00 on the Fund to pay for the 8th Street side walk constructed under Ordinance No 243 in fullfor his services as Surveyor on the improvement. Ordered that the Ordinance Committee be and they are hereby requested to confer with J W Ackerson & others and the Seattle Lumber & Commercial Co. to see what arrangements can be made relative to the Ballast Wharf Ordered that a warrant be drawn in favor of James M Colman for the amount of interest due on the Commercial Street Grade warrant No 11 Ordered that the petition of Bailey Gatzert asking to have the alley in Block 48 of Terry and McNaughts 2nd Addition be & the same is hereby laid on the Lable Ordered that the petition of O S Wright & others praying

6 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Oct 14, 1881 for the opening of Canal Street be & the same is hereby laid on the table And now the City Attorney submits Ordinance No 250 entitled "An Ordinance to provide for the printing and Job work of the City of Seattle" thereupon after due consideration said Ordinance is adopted upon the following vote to wit: In favor of adoption Collins, Clancy, Jennings, Keenan, Keezer & McDonald; Against adoption none. And now the City Attorney submits Ordinance no 251 entitled "An Ordinance to provide for the levying and collecting of a special tax for the purpose of raising funds to pay for the construction of the sidewalk along the West Side of Eighth Street from the North side of Dearborn (otherwise Park) Street to the South side of Main Street together with all necessary and lawful charges and expenses incident thereto; thereupon after due. Consideration said Ordinance is adopted upon the following vote to wit: In favor of adoption Collins, Clancy, Jennings, Keenan, Keezer & McDonald; against none Ordered that the Claims of Stetson & Post and Eureka Bakery be & they are hereby referred to the finance Committee Ordered that the Council Stand now adjourned until Friday evening October 21st 1881 Attest: E F Osborne Clerk Approved John Collins Acting Mayor
