Smith Mayor Be it remembered that on this the 31st day of May, 1882, the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets pursant to the call of the mayor to take proper precaution to prevent the spread of smallpox. Present His Honor the Mayor, L. P. Smith and Councilman Thos Clancy, John Collins, Wm A Jennings John Keenan Moses Keezer and Chas McDonald Ordered that the health officer be and he is hereby instructed to proceed to destroy or displace of the holding and furniture in the New England Hotel used by certain small pox cases. Attest: E S Osborne Clerk Approved, L P Smith Mayor Be it remembered that on this the 2nd day of June 1882 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law Present, his Honor the Mayor L P Smith and Councilman Thos Clancy, John Collins, M Densmore, Wm A Jennings, John Keenan, and Chas McDonald Thereupon the following proceedings are had; A petition is receiving from B Crosson praying for permission to erect a booth on Occidental Square; on motion said petitionis laid on the table A petitionis received from Jas M Colman and others praying for the removal of certain buildings from the foot of Columbia Street whereupon the same is referred to the Street Committee A petition is received from Jas McNaught and others praying for the vacation of the Alley in Block 19 on Mill And

75 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Terrace streets and is referred to the Street Committee And now comes Moses Keezer and tenders his resignation as Councilman from the 3rd ward for the reason that he has moved out of said 3rd ward and is now residing in the 2nd ward; whereupon said resignation is accepted. And now the reports of the following City offices for the month of May are received and ordered placed on file, viz. Street Commissioner, Fire Warden, Harbor Master, City Justce and City Attorney. 77 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE And now the Council proceeds to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Moses Keezer,member for the 3rd ward and G L Manning is elected to fill said vacancy; and is also placed on the Street Committee Fire Committee and Cemetary Committee to fill the vacancies in said Committees caused by the resignation of said Moses Keezer. And now the Ordinance Committee submit Ordinance No 280, the same being entitiled as follows, to wit: "A Special Ordinance to provide for the construction of a sidewalk as follows, to wit: Commencing on Stewart Street at the Alley which runs through Block thirty five (35) thence along the north side of said Stewart Street to the West Side of Tenth Street, thence along the West side of siad Tenth Street to the North side Virginia Street to Eleventh Street in the City of Seattle, County of King and Territory of Washington" After due consideration said ordinance is adopted by the following vote viz: In favor of adoption, Thos Clancy, John Collins, M Densmore, W A Jennings, John Keenan and Chas McDonald. Against adoption none. And now the Ordinance Committee submits ORdinance No 281, the same being entitled as follows, to wit: " A special ordinance to provide for the construction of a sidewalk as follows, to wit: Commencing at the Center line of Eighth Street, thence along the north side of Pine Street to the west side of said of Ninth Street, thence along the west side of said Ninthe Street to the center line of Stewart Street in the City of Seattle, County of King, and territory of Washington" After due consideration said ordinance is adopted by the following vote to wit: In favor of adoption Thos Clancy, John Collins, M Densmore, Wm A Jennings John Keenan and Chas McDonald. Against adoption None.

78 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE And now the Ordinance Committee submit Ordinance No 282, the same being entitles as folows to wit: "A Special Ordinance to provide for the construction of a Sidewalks along both sides of Washington Street from the Centre line of Second Street to the center line of Third Street in the City of Seattle, County of King, and the Territory of Washington" After due consideration said ordinance is adopted by the following vote to wit: In favor of adoption, Thos Clancy, John Collins, M Densmore Wm A Jennings, John Keenan and Chas McDonald. Against adoption none And now the council proceeds to open and consider that bids for the furnishing of material for, and the building of the City Jail and Engine House. The following bids arre opened, being all the bids received, viz: McDonald and Rutze $7800.00 E W Reas 7525.00 Ranke & Loshe 7600.00 John Keenan 8300.00 John P Lawrena 8300.00 M J Carkeek 9385.00 The bid of E W Reas bring the lowest it is ordered that the contract be awarded to him upon his giving bonds in the sum of $10,000 with two surities to build said Jail and Engine House in accordance with his bid and the plans and specification of said building and to perform everything required by the contract to be made between him and the City. Ordered thsat E W Reas be requirred to file his band within three days and to commence the construction of said building within ten days thereafter An application is received from H J McSorley for permission to plan a fruit stand near Kellogg and Anderson Drug Store and is laid on the table. A petition is received from H W Wadleigh et al praying for the modification of the grade 5th in the street
