159 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Oct 20/82 Ordered that Frank Peters be allowed to withdraw his application for a retail liquor license and refile the same. And now Frank Peters files his application for a retail liquor license. Referred to the Committee on Licenses and Revenue. Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned. Attest: E S Osborne Clerk Approved H G Struve Mayor Office of the Mayor of the City of Seattle October 25 1882 A meeting of the Council is hereby called to convene on Thursday October 26 1882 at 7 1/2 o'clock p.m. at the Council Chamber for the transaction of any business that may be brought before it. H G Struve Mayor Oct 26/82 Be it remembered that on this the 26th day of October 1882 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber following to the call of His Honor the Mayor. The following Officers are present, towit: His Honor the Mayor H. G. Struve and Councilmen John Collins, O. F. Cosper, Chas F. Clancy, Fred Gasch, G. L. Manning and U.M. Rasin. Thereupon the following proceedings are had: Communications Received From His Honor the Mayor submitting a protest by W.E. Boone Architect against the manner of the construction of the New City Engine House by E. W. Rea Contractor. Reports Received From City Surveyor submtting Plans and Specifications and Estimates for a sidewalk on Union Street as required by Ordinance No. 324. Thereupon after examination the same

160 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Oct 26/82 are approved. From City Surveyor submitting Plans, Specification and Estimates for the Improvements on South Second Street as required by Ordinance No. 325. Thereupon after due examination the same are approved. From City Surveyor submitting Plans, Specification and Estimates for the Improvements on Jackson required by Ordinance No. 325. Thereupon after due examination the same are approved. From City Surveyor submitting Plans, Specification for the sidewalk on Washington Street required by Ordinance No. 326. Thereupon after due examination the same are approved. Committee's Reports From Licenses and Revenue recommending a retail liquor license be issued to J.C. Nixon. Adopted Applicaton for Licenses From Wm. Grose for retail liquors. Referred to the Committee on Licenses and Revenue. New Business Ordered that the Mayor be and is hereby instructed to appoint a Committee of three to be known as the Jail Committee whose duty is shall be to superintend the construction of the New City Engine under Ordinance No 285 and that they are hereby empowered to employ a suitable Architect for that purpose at an expense not to exceed $75.00. Thereupon the Mayor appoints Rasin, Cosper and Gasch as such Committee. And now the Council proceeds to elect a Policeman to fill the vacancy called by the resigantion of R.H. Calligan. Whereupon such election is held and James W. Stuart receiving a majority of all the votes of the Councilmen present is duly declared elected to fill such vacancy for the term provided by law.

161 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Oct 26/82 Ordered that the Treasurer be and is hereby instructed to make a reduction in the assessment of the Slotter Hen's for and on account of the Jackson Street sidewalk as was done in call of Columbia and P.S. R.R. Co and that upon the payment of such reduced taxation together with Penalty and interest their assessment be satisfied. Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned until Friday October 27 1882 at 7 1/2 o'clock p.m. Attest E S Osborne Clerk Approved U M Rasin Acting Mayor Oct 27/82 Be it remembered that on this the 27th day of October 1882 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment. The following Officers are present, to wit: His Honor the Mayor H. G. Struve and Councilmen John Collins, O. F. Cosper, Chas F. Clancy, Fred Gasch, Charles McDonald and U.M. Rasin. Thereupon the following proceedings are had: And now the Jail Committee make their report upon certain changes made against the Contractor of New City Engine House; thereupon said report is adopted. A petition is received from J.W. George et al for removal of a Chinese Wash House on Lot 8 Block 6 of Maynards plat; thereupon the same is referred to the Committee on Fire and Water supply.
