169 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned until Friday November 10 1882 at 7 1/2 o'clock p.m. Attest E S Osborne Clerk Approved H G Struve Mayor Nov 10/82 Be it remembered that on this the 10th day of November 1882 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment. The following Offices are present, towit: His Honor the Mayor H.G. Struve and Councilmen O. F. Cosper, Chas F. Clancy, Fred Gasch, Charles McDonald, G. L. Manning and V.M. Rasin. Thereupon the following proceedings are had. Petitions Received From Wm. H. Reeves et al for a sidewalk on Seneca Street between Front and 3rd Streets. Referred to the Committee on Streets and Street Improvements. Committee Reports Received From Streets submitting bids for Jackson Streets Improvement. Ordered that all bids be rejected. From Streets and Street Improvements recommending that the Contract for Union Street sidewalk under Ord. No. 324 be awarded to Hoole and Simpson on their bid for the same. Adopted. Ordered that the bond of said Contractors be fixed in the sum of $500.00 and that the City Attorney prepare the proper contract and fund. From Streets and Street Improvements recommending that the contract for the Washington Street sidewalk under Ordinance No. 326 be awarded to A.S. Parkham in his bid for the same. Adopted. Ordered that the bond of said Contractor be fined in the same of $100.00 and that the City Attorney prepare the proper contract and bond. From Streets and Street Improvements recommending that the

170 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Nov 10/82 petition of W.D. Lyts for the rights to erect a building on Columbia Street be denied. Adopted and petition denied. From Streets and Street Improvements recommending that all bids for South 2nd Street improvements be rejected. Adopted. Ordered that the Clerk be and hereby instructed to delay advertising for new bids for said improvements until the further order of he Council. From Streets and Street Improvements recommending that the protest of H.J. White against paying Union Street grade tax be denied. Adopted and protest denied. From Streets and Street Improvements recommending the construction of a wooden sewer from 5th Street alongMadison to the Bay. Adopted and City Surveyor instructed to submit plans and specifications therefor. From Street sand Street Improvements recommending the granting of the petition of E.A. Turner et al for raising a sidewalk in 5th Street and etc. Adopted and Streets Committioner instructed to make the necessary improvements. From Streets and Street Improvements recommending the granting of the petition of John H. Carr et al for a sidewalk on the north side of Jackson Street from the west side of 8th Street to the west side of 6th Street. Adopted and Judiciary and Legislative Committee instructed to submit a proper ordinance. From Streets and Street Improvements recommending the denial of the petition of W. N. Bell with reference to sidewalk fronting Odd Fellows Hall in Belltown. Adopted and petition denied. From Street and Street Improvements approving the reports of the Surveyor on 2d and 3d intersecting grades and of Front Street grade, also of Street Commissioner. Adopted. Ordered that the Fire Warden be and is hereby instructed to purchase a new hose carriage and 300 feet of Maltese Hose and the Judiciary and Legislative Comtte. are instructed to submit the proper ordinance therefor. 171 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Nov 10/82 Revenue. Ordered that a retail liquor license be granted to Thos Osgood upon on his application now on file. Claims paid - Fire Fund R.H. Calligan Work on Incline No 95 $5.50 Ordinances Consideration of Councilman Rasin introduces an Ordinance entitled "An Ordinance to amend Ordinance 129 entitled and Ordinance relating to the Fire Warden his powers and duties. Approved Nov. 23 1876." After due consideration said ordinance is adopted upon the following vote, towit: In favor of adoption Cosper, Clancy, Gasch, McDonald, Manning and Rasin. Against adoption none. And now the Council proceeds to consider an ordinance granting to W.W. Goodrich certain rights to maintain water works. After due consideration said ordinance is rejected upon the following vote, towit: In favor of adoption none. Against adoption Cosper, Clancy, ]]Gasch]], McDonald, Manning and Rasin. And now the Judiciary and Legislative Committee submit an ordinance entitled "A special ordinance appropriating money to pay audited bills". After due consideration said ordinance is adopted upon the following vote, towit: In favor of adoption Cosper, Clancy, Gasch, McDonald, Manning and Rasin. Against adoption none. Ordered that the Clerk be and is hereby instructed to write proposals to furnish lamp posts and lamps. Ordered that the Jail Comtee. be and are hereby instructed to plaster the inside walls of the Engine Room in new City Engine House.

Ordered that the City Atty be and he is hereby instructed to take all necessary steps to defend the suit of John Leary -v- City now pending. Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned until Monday Nov. 13 1882 at 7 o'clock p.m. Attest: E S Osborne Clerk Approved H G Struve Mayor
