196 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Jan 5/83 to said Treasurer commanding him to proceed and forthwith to collect the delinquent taxes upon said roll in the manner provided by law and pay the cause to the Tresasuer of the City of Seattle less his fees & Costs of collection and return the Warrant with his doings thereon, and the receipt of the City Treasurer for all moneys collected there by paid to the City Treasurer to the Clerk. Ordered that the Gas Committee be & they are hereby instructed to place a kerosene lamp corner 5th & Jefferson Streets Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned until Monday eveing January 15,1883 attest: E S Osborne clerk Approved H G Struve mayor Be it remembered that on this the 15th day of January 1883 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council chamber pursuant to adjournment. Referred to Commmittee on Gas Lights From W H Pumphrey et al for an extension of time in the payment of taxes for Pine & 9th and Stewart 10th & Virginia Streets Sidewalks. Referred to the Committee onStreeets and Street Improvements From H V B Stacy for the right to build sidewalk from 3rd Street to alley in Block 21. Referred to the Committee on Streets and Street Improvements From W H White et al for an investigation as to the right of T J Small to act an policeman. Referred to Committee

COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Jan 15/83 on Health and Police From H Butler et al for lowering the sidewalk on James Street Referred to the Committee on Streets and Street Improvements From Charles Coppin et al for the grading of and the constructioin of sidewalks on both sides of Columbia Street from 3rd to Broadway. Referred to the Committee on Streets and Street Improvements. From John Leary et al for the grading of the alley in Block 7 of Boren's plat. Referred to the Committee on Streets and Street Improvements From Jacob Fischel for reducing Peddlers license. Referred to the Committee on License & Revenue From L S Rowe et al remonstrating against the proposed constructionof a sidewalk on Battery Street. Referred to the Committee on Streets and Street improvements. From Bailey Gatzert objecting to the removal of his fence on account of grading on 3rd Street. Referred to the Committee on Streets and Street Improvements Reports of Committees Received From Health and Police approving the report of the City Justice. Adopted From Health and Police on the subject of sewerage and submitting Estimates made by the surveyor showing the comparative cost of stone-ware and wood sewers & recommending the laying of stoneware sewer in Madison Street. Ordered that the Legislative and Judiciary Committee be and they are hereby instructed to submit an Ordinance providing for such stone-ware sewer in Madison Street from 5th to Elliott's Bay from Fire and Water approving Fire Wardens Report Adopted From Judiciary and Legislative approving City Attorney's report adopted From Committee on Gas Lights reporting against the Claim of James R Ludlow on a/c of Gas Tax. Adopted

Adopted and claim rejected From Licenses and Revenue against the petition Ed. L Lindsley for the changing of a license. Adopted petition denied From Licenses and Revenue approving Harbor Masters Report. Adopted From Streets and Street Improvement recommending the granting of the petition of M V B Stacy for the right construct a sidewalk on Marion Street from 3rd to the alley in Block 21 of boren's plat. Adopted Communications Rec'd From the Mayor returning Warrant No 166 drawn on Washington Street sidewalk fund under Ord No. 326 favor of A S Pinkham for $32.00 without his signature for the reason that said warrant is not a proper charge against said Fund. Recommendations are adopted. Said Warrant is ordered Cancelled & a Warrant ordered drawn on City Fund in lien thereof. on Fire & Water Supply make all necessary changes in No 1's Engine House so as to accomodate No 2 Ordered that the petition of H Butler et al for lowering sidewalk in James' Street be granted temporarily so far as to lower the said sidewalk 2 feet. Ordered that all prisoners to turned over to the care & Custody of the Day Police [ following passage is marked VOID and crossed out]: Ordered that the Contractors Chin Guam & Charlie be & they are hereby granted 6 weeks further time from this date in which to complete the Improvement on 2d,3rd, & intersecting Streets under Contract.[VOID] Consideration of Ordinances The City Attorney submits an Ordinance entitled "In relation to the Breach of Contract for the erection of a certain Building under Ordinance No 285" Thereupon the same is laid over until the First Friday in February The Judiciary and Legislative Committee submit an Ordinance entitled "To provide for the Construction of Sidewalks on Columbia and Cherry Streets" After the consideration said ordinance is adopted upon the following votes to wit: In Favor of Adoption Collins, Cosper, Gasch, McDonald and Manning. Against adoption none. The City Attorney submits an Ordinance entitles "To provide for the construction of a Sewer in Madison Street" After due consideration said Ordinance is adopted upon the following vote to wit: In Favor of Adoption Collins, Cosper, Gasch, McDonald and Manning. Against adoption none. And now the Council proceeds to consider an Ordinance entitled "A special Ordinance appropriating money to pay audited Bills" After due consideration said ordinance is adopted upon the following Vote To wit: In Favor of Adoption Collins, Cosper, Gasch, McDonald and Manning. Against adoption none.
