Monday Febraury 12 1883 at 7 1/2 o'clock p.m. for the special purpose od considering bids for Street Improvements Attes: E.S. Osborne Clerk Approved John Collins Acting Mayor

Feb. 12/893 Be it remembered that on this the 12th day of February 1883 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournemnt.

The following of the Officers are present, towit: His Honor the Acting Mayor Councilman John Collins and Councilmen O.F. Cosper, Charles F. Clancy, Fred Gasch, Charles McDonald and G. L. Manning.

Thereupon the following proceedings are had:

Bids Received And now the Council proceeds to open and consider the bids for the sidewalk to be constructed on Columbia Street under Ordinance No. 354 which bids are as follows, towit:

Simpson perM feet B.M.[thousand board feet] 16.95 S. F. Hoole perM feet B.M.[thousand board feet] 16.00 D.S. Hill and H. Rosburg perM feet B.M.[thousand board feet] 16.90 Geo S. Cassell perM feet B.M.[thousand board feet] 16.40

And now is appearing to the Councl that the bid of S. F. Hoole is the lowest and best bid, and that he is the lowest responsible builder. It is therefore ordered that the contract be awarded to him upon his giving a bond with good and sufficient sureties in the sum of $500.00

And now the Council proceeds to open and consider the bids for the sidewalk to be constructed on Cherry Street under Ordinance No 354, which bids are as follows, towit:

Referred to the Committee on Streets and Street Improvements. From Thos H. Bates for the right to erect a building on Front Street near Marion. Referred to the Committee on Streets and Street Improvements. From Fred E. Sander for the right to use a building as a Wash House. Referred to the Committee on Fire and Water Supply. From Herrietta M. Heller et al for the grading of and the construction of sidewalks on both sides of James Street from Third to Broadway. Referred to the Committee on Streets and Street Improvements. Miscellaneous From His Honor the Acting Mayor declining to sign Warrant to be drawn favor of E.W. Rea until all liens on Engine House are satisfied. Adopted. The petition of Thos H. Bates is rejected. Ordered that a Committee of 3 be and they are hereby appointed to receive plans and specifications for a Brick or Wooden Engine House on Columbia Street Property. Thereupon McDonald, Clancy & Gasch are appointed such a Committee.

Honell and Joe Francisco for Retail liquors Licenses Granted Trana & Ackley for retail liquor Claims Paid Seneca Street Sidewalk Ord 336 Hill & Rosburg Contract Work No 176 $619.57 City Fund Wm Gure Taxes refunded No. 297 $22.50 And now the Council proceeds to open and consider the award of the Arbitrators duly appointed to consider & act upon the claim of E.W. Rea for $716.00 for extra services on Engine House: thereupon said arbitrators award in found to be in favor of E.W. Rea for $301.25. Award adopted. And now the Council proceeds to consider the specifications of the Surveyor for a Stone Wall fronting the Denny & Colman Blocks in Front Street. Pending which the matter is laid over until next meeting. And now the Plans and Specifications for Marion Street sidewalk under Ordinance No. 364 are presented and after due examination the same are approved and ordered filed. And now the Plans and Specifications for a sidewalk in Battery Street under Ordinance No. 362 are presented and after due examination the same are approved and ordered filed. Ordered that the matter of a Telephone for the Engine House on South 3rd Street be laid over until next meeting. The Finance Committee report favorable on the Report of the Treasurer. Adopted.
