286 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE June 25/83 Ordered that the foregoing bids be & are referred to a Comtee to wit: Cosper, Clancy & Gasch. Unfinished Business And now the Council proceeds to consider the Report of the Street Committee on the grading of 4th Street; thereupon after due consideration it is Ordered that Fourth Street be graded; and that Sidewalks be constructed on both sides of said Fourth Street from the South line of Seneca Street to the North line of Mill Street. And that the City Attorney be & he is hereby instructed to submit an ordinance therefor. Adopted upon the Following vote, to wit: In favor of said order; Cosper, Clancy, Gasch, McDonald & Rasin; against none. Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned until Thursday June 28, 1883 at 8 o'clock pm Attest: E S Osborne clerk Approved H G Struve mayor June 28/83 Be it remembered that on this the 28th day of June 1883 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment. The following Officers are present to wit: His Honor the Mayor H G Struve and Councilmen O F Cosper, Charles Clancy, Fred Gasch, Charles McDonald. Petitions Received From Wa Chong & Co for the priveledge of building a sidewalk of South 3rd Street. Referred to Comtee on Streets and Street Improvements. From Star Mfg Co. For the right to build a Water Tank & Wharf in Seneca Street. Referred to Streets. And now the Council proceeds to open the bids for the Improvement of South 3rd Street under Ordinance No 399, which bids are as follows to wit: Strong & Harkins Earthwork per cu yd 42 cents

Committees Reports Rec'd From Comtee on bids awarding the contract for the Improvement of Jackson Street under Ordinance No 398 to Geo. N Alexander upon his bid upon executing a Bond in the sum of $15000. Adopted & Contract so awarded. From Comtee on bids awarding the contract for the grading of Pike Street from Front to the alley between Front & Second & for sidewalks on both sides of Pike Street from Front to 3rd, under Ordinance No 400 to D S Hill upon his bid upon executing a Bond in the sum of $500. Adopted & Contract so awarded Ordinance Rec'd From City Attorney submitting an Ordinance entitled "To provide for lighting the Streets of the City of Seattle and fixing the limits within which property shall be subject to a special tax for Gas Light" Thereupon after due consideration the

Licenses Granted Bersch & Henk for Grocery for 3 months from July 1, 1883 Bersch & Henk for 2 pool tables for 3 months from July 1, 1883 Bersch & Henk for 1 pigeon hole table for 3 months from July 1, 1883 Ordered that the Council Stand Adjourned Attest: E S Osborne clerk Approved H G Struve mayor July 2/83 Be it remembered that on this the 2d day of July1883 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to the call of His Honor the Mayor H G Struve The following officers rae present, to wit: His Honor the Mayor H G Struve and Coucilmen John Collins, O F Cosper, Fred Gasch, McDonald & U M Rasin thereupon the following proceedings are had: And now the surveyor submits a Report on the caving in on Front Street caused by excavation made on the Amos Boren Property. Ordered that the Surveyor be & he is hereby instructed to examine the said premises & report to the council at next meeting the best & cheapest method of securing the cribbing abutting said premises & submit plans and specifications for the securing of the same. Ordered that the Surveyor be & he is hereby instructed to submit at next meeting a report as to the condition of the cribbing abutting the Colman Block on Front Street. Ordered that the Chief of Police be & he is hereby authorized to employ such additional Policemen for the 3rd & 4th of July as he deems necessary. Ordered that notices be published in all City papers prohibiting the firing of fire crackers on July 3d & 4th
