297 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE July 6/83 of said rolls is laid over until Monday July 16, 1883 at 8 o'clock p.m. And now the Surveyor submits the Plans and Specifications for the Improvement of Cherry Street under Ordinance No. 395; thereupon after due examination the same are approved. And now the Surveyor submits the Plans and Specifications for the Improvement of Fourth Street from the south side of Seneca Street to the north side of Mill Street under Ordinance No. 395 as amended by Ordinance No. 408; thereupon after due examination the sae are approved. And now the Surveyer submits the Plans and Specfication for the Improvment of 9th Street under Ordinance No. 395 as amended by Ordinance No. 408; thereupon after due examinaion the same are approved. Miscellaneous Orderd that the contract for the construction of the Engine House on Columbia Street be and the same is awarded to Carkeek Nicholas on their bid therefor. Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned until July 16, 1883 at 8 o'clock p.m. Attest: E S Osborne clerk Approved H G Struve mayor July 16/83 Be it remembered that on this 16th day of July 1883 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment. 298 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE July 16/83 Petitions Received From Carkeek & Nicholas for an extension of time on the contract for the construction of the Engine House on Columbia Street of 30 days. Granted upon the condition that the sureties on the bond of said contractors file with the Clerk their written assent thereto. From Geo. R. Smith et al on the matter of Fish stands at foot of Columbia Street. Referred to the Committe on Health and Police. Reports Received From the Surveyor on the matter of certain repairs to the Front Street Crib Work and submitting Specifications therefor. Referred to the Street Comtee. From the Attorney on the matter of Gas Light district & recommending the repeal of Ordinance No. 407. Adopted & Attorney instructed to submit the necessary ordinances. Committee's Reports Received From Finance approving the Treasurer's Semi-annual Report and the Treasurer's report on the Marion Street Sidewalk Tax Roll under Ordinance No. 364. Adopted. From the Committee on Public Buildings, Property & Grounds recommending the letting of the contract for certain repairs to the Engine House on South 3rd Street to C.H. Metcalf on his bid upon giving a Bond with good & sufficient sureties in the sum of $500.00. Adopted and contract so awarded. From Streets and Street Improvements recommending the letting of the contract for the Improvement of Madison Street under Ordinance No. 406 to Strong and Harkins upon giving a Bond with good & sufficient sureties in the sum of $15000.00. Adopted and contract so awarded. From Streets and Street Improvements rejecting the petition of Thos Pierce et al for grading 4th Streets from Union to Pine. Adopted and petition denied. From Fire and Water supply approving Fire Warden's report. Adopted. From Harbor and Wharves on Inclines. Ordered that the Comtee on Harbor & Wharves be & they are hereby authorized to make

299 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE July 16/83 such necessary repairs and extension to the Inclines at foots of Columbia and Washington Streets as they may be advised. Ordered that the Plans and Specifications for the Engine House on Columbia Street be changed so as to shorten said building 5 feet with a reduction of $200.00 on the contract price provided however, that the contractors and their bondsmen assent in writing thereto. Ordered that the Committee on the Columbia Street Engine House be and they are hereby instructed to take all necessary means to house the Engines, dispose of old Engine House and to place the Fire Bell in a position so as to be used. Licenses Granted The following applications for Licenses having been duly approved by the Committee on Licenses and Revenue licenses are ordered issues as follows, towit: Frank & Dickman retail for 3 months from July 4, 1883 Louis Sylvania 1 pigeon hole table for 6 months from July 13, 1883 Chas Kitts retail for 3 months from July 14, 1883 Otto Pasquan retail for 3 months from July 17, 1883 L. Diller retail for 3 months from July 16, 1883 L. Diller 1 billiard table for 3 months from July 16, 1883 Shaw & Algar retail for 3 months from July 9, 1883 Shaw & Algar 1 billiard table for 3 months from July 9, 1883 G. B. Austin retail for 3 months from July 16, 1883 Bids Received And now the Council proceeds to open and consider the bids for the Improvement of Cherry Street under Ordinance No. 395: which bids are as follows, towit: S.F.
