to them upon their executing a Bond with good and sufficient sureties in the sum of $3000.00

And now the Street Committee make their report awarding the Contract for the piling + Wharf building on South 3rd Street under Ordinance N. 399 to G. N. Alexander. Thereupon the Council finding his bid to be the lowest responsible bid + said Alexander to be the lowest responsible bidder. It is ordered that the contract be awarded to him upon his executing a bond with good and sufficient sureties in the sum of $3000.00

Ordered that a Warrant be issued to James Villie on the City Fund in the sum of $17.90 being the amount of sidewalk tax paid by him for + on a/c of the Improvement of 2d, 3d + intersecting Streets under Ordinance No. 288.

Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned until Thursday July 19, 1883 at 8 o'clock P.M.

July 19/83 Be it remembered that on this the 19th day of July 1883 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment

Thereupon the following Officers are present towit: His Honor the Mayor H. G. Struve and Councilmen John Collins, O. F. Cosper, Charles F. Clancy, Fred Gasch and U. M. Rasin

Thereupon the following proceedings are had:

And now the Council proceeds to canvass the returns of the Election held July 9 1883 with the following result, towit:

First Ward Total number of Votes cast 422 For Mayor H. G. Struve received 315 Votes J. R. Lewis do 27 do L. P. Smith do 69 do

For Marshal J. H. Wollery received 397 do J. T. Gordan do 4 do

duly elected to the Offices following, for the term provided by law, which term commences on the 29th day of July 1883, towit:

Mayor H. G. Struve Marshal J. H. Woolsey Councilmen for the First Ward Thomas Clancy U. M. Rasin Councilmen for th Second Ward F. W. Wusthoff Charles McDonald Geo W. Harris Councilmen for the Third Ward B. F. Day Otto Ranke

And now a Communication is received from Keenan + Cummings asking to released from the entering into a Contract for the Improvement of Cherry Street under Ordinance No. 395 and for the grading on South 3rd Street under Ordinance No. 399 on their bids therefore.

Ordered that the Clerk be + is hereby instructed to retain from any Warrants issued or to be issued for or of said Keenan + Cummings or either of them, Warrants in the aggregate of $500.00 being the amount of penalty forfeited under their Bonds accompanying their bids for the Improvements under Ordinances No. 305 and 399

Ordered that the Clerk be + is hereby instructed to re-advertise for bids for the Improvement of Cherry Street under Ordinance No. 395 and for the Improvement of South 3rd Street under Ordinance No. 399 excluding however Piling and Wharf Building

Ordered that hereafter all bids for Improvements must be accompanied by a deposit to be left with the Clerk of the sum of $200.00 in gold coin for each bid conditioned for the faithful execution of any contract that may be awarded

Ordered that no contract be entered into for a Stone-iron Sewer in 4th Street under the Improvement under Ordinance 395

Ordered that Contractor for the Improvement of Madison Street under Ordinance No. 406 be granted an extension of time until

Reports Rec'd From the Surveyor showing Final Statement of Work done on Lower Pike Street grade and Lower Pike Street Sidewalk under Ordinance No. 400; Upper Pike Street Improvement uner Ordinance No. 375; and the Improvement of the Alley through Blocks A. B. C. D. and E of Denny's plat under Ordinance No 384. Referred to the Comtee on Streets

Communications Rec'd From Murphy and Stewart declining to enter into a Contract for the Improvement of 9th Street under Ordinance No. 395 on their bid therefore

Ordered that the Clerk be + he is hereby instructed to retain from any Warrants to be issued for or of said Murphy and Stewart or either of them Warrants in the aggregate of $250.00 being the amount of penalty forfeited under their Bond accompanying their bid for the Improvement of 9th Street under Ordinance No. 395
