December 1, 1883 in which to complete said contract.

Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned until Monday July 23. 1883 at 8 o'clock P.M.

July 23/83 Be it remembered that on this the 23d day of July 1883 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment

The following Officers are present, towit: His Honor the Mayor H. G. Struve and Councilmen John Collins, O. F. Cosper, Chas F. Clancy, Fred Gasch, Charles McDonald and U. M. Rasin Thereupon the following proceedings are had:

Petitions Rec'd From Geo Kinnear et al for a sidewalk on Spring Street from Second to the alley between 3rd + 4th. Referred to Streets + Street Improvements

Reports Rec'd From the Surveyor showing Final Statement of Work done on Lower Pike Street grade and Lower Pike Street Sidewalk under Ordinance No. 400; Upper Pike Street Improvement under Ordinance No. 375; and the Improvement of the Alley through Blocks A. B. C. D. and E of Dennys plat under Ordinance No. 384. Referred to the Comtee on Streets

Communications Rec'd From Murphy and Stewart declining to enter into a Contract for the Improvement of 9th Street under Ordinance No. 395 on their bid therefor

Ordered that the Clerk be + is hereby instructed to retain from any Warrants to be issued for or of said Murphy and Stewart or either of them Warrants in the aggregate of $250.00 being the amount of penalty forfeited under their Bond accompanying their bid for the Improvement of 9th Street under Ordinance No. 395.

Ordered that the Clerk be + he is hereby instructed to re-advertise for bids for the Improvement of 9th Street under Ordinance No. 395.

Committees Reports Rec'd From Streets and Street Improvements on the Surveyor's Report on the matter of the Improvement of Front Street Cribbing.

Ordered that the Cribbing fronting Colmans Block on Front Street be repaired as recommended, the same to be done under the supervision of the Street Comtee

Ordered that the remainder of the report be laid over.

From Streets and Street Improvements recommending the construction of Sidewalks on both sides of Spring Street from Second to the center of the alley between 3rd + 4th Streets. Adopted

Ordered that the Clerk be + he is hereby instructed to notify all owners of property in said district to construct their respective sidewalks within 2 weeks after notice given or the same will be constructed pursuant to an Ordinance to be adopted.

From Health and Police on Fish stands foot of Columbia Street rejecting petition of Wm Meydenbaur for the removal of the same. Adopted

Miscellaneous Ordered that the Attorney be + he is hereby instructed to commence proceedings at once to cause the removal of the building owned by Geo Misener on the Street Corner Pike and 4th Streets

Ordered that the Street Comtee be + they are hereby instructed to negotiate with the Contractor for the Improvement of Seneca Street under Ordinance No. 401 so as to rescind so much of his Contract as relates to the construction of a Sidewalk on the North side of said Street.

Applications for Licenses The following applications having been approved by the Comtee on Licenses + Revenue, Licenses are ordered issued as follows

Charles Boerner Retail and Pigeon Hole table for 3 months from July 15 '83 Osterberg + Gniff [?] do 3 Aug [----] [-----] do 3 July 17

Te Attorney submits an Ordinance entitled "To vacate the alley through Block 55 of David S. Maynard's Plat of Seattle." Thereupon after due consideration of the same is adopted upon the following Vote, towit: In favor of adoption Collins, Cosper, Clancy

4 Ordinances are submitted each being entitled "A special Ordinance appropriating money to pay audited bills." thereupon after due consideration the same is adopted upon the following Vote towit: In favor of adoption Collins, Cosper, Clancy, Gasch, McDonald + Rasin. Against adoption none.

Ordered that the rate of assessment in order to provide funds to pay for the grading and Improvement of Pike Street from a point midway between 3d + 4th to 8th under ordinance No. 375 be and the same is hereby fixed at the sum of 57 mills on the Dollar

Ordered that the rate of assessment in order to provide funds to pay for the grading of Pike Street from Front to the Alley between Front and Second Streets under Ordinance No 400 be and the same is hereby fixed at the sum of 6 9/100 mills on the Dollar

Ordered that the rate of assessment in order to provide funds to pay for the construction of sidewalks on both sides of Pike Street from Front to the East side of Third Street under Ordinance No 400, be + the same is hereby fixed at the rate of 11 4/10 mills to the Dollar.

Ordered that the rate of assessment in order to provide funds to pay for the Improvement of the Alley through Blocks A. B. C. D. and E of Dennys Plat under Ordinance No. 384 be + the same is hereby fixed at the sum of 20 8/10 mills on the Dollar.

Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned until Friday July 27. 1883 at 8 o'clock P.M.
