325 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Aug 6/83

Ordered that the Attorney be + he is hereby instructed to submit an Ordinance to prevent the employment of Chinese on public Improvements.

Ordered that a Comtee towit: Harris, Ranke + Wusthoff be + they are hereby appointed to interview the citizens + report to the Council suitable provisions for the reception of Henry Villard + party upon their arrival in this city in September next

Ordered that the Clerk be + he is hereby instructed to advertise for bids for the City printing + gaswork for the ensuing year.

Ordinances Rec'd An Ordinance is submitted entitled "A special Ordinance appropriating money to pay Audited bills." thereupon after due consideration the same is adopted upon the following Vote, towit: In favor of adoption Day, Harris, Raskin, Ranke + Wusthoff. Against the same none.

Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned until Friday August 10.1883 at 8 o'clock P.M.

Aug 10/83 Be it remembered that on this the 10th day of August 1883 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment.

From Finance approving the Assessment Rolls for Jackson Street Improvement under Ordinance No. 398 and Seneca Street Improvement under Ordinance No. 401. Adopted

From Finance approving Treasurer's Reports on the condition of the general Funds for month of July; on Seneca St sidewalk Tax Roll Ord. 336; on Cherry St Improvement Tax Roll Ord 365; on Spring St Improvement Tax Roll (Front to alley) Ord 365 + on Spring St Improvement Tax Roll (alley btw 3d + 4th to 7th) Ord 365. Adopted

From Fire + Water recommending an appropriation of $300.00 out of the Fire Fund be paid to Seattle Hook + Ladder Co. to apply upon their indebtedness for Truck provided that said Hook + Ladder truck shall be the property of the City. Adopted

From Street Comtee recommending certain changes in the grade on Madison Street. Adopted + Attorney instructed to submit an Ordinance therefor.

From Street Comtee on the petition of S. F. Hoole to be released from his Contract for the grading of Washington Street under Ordinance No. 369, recommending that the Contract be rescinded + that the City complete the said grading at the expense of the Contractor + his Bondsmen because of the failure of said Contractor to fulfil the contract. And that the Clerk be + is hereby instructed to advertise for bids for the completion of said grading according to plans + specifications. Adopted

From Street Comtee reporting back the petition of D. E. Blaine et al against letting the Contract on the Pine St Improvement under Ordinance No. 421 without recommendation.

Licenses ordered issued Ordered that licenses be issued as follows, towit:

Third + 4th Street.

The motion for the reconsideration of the Vote by which the Contract for the Improvement of Pine St under Ord 421 was awarded to Haskins + Strong + entered on page 323 is lost by the following Vote, towit: In favor of reconsideration Day + Harris. Against the same Ranke, Wusthoff + Rasin

Ordered that the Vote by which the order for retaining $500.00 from any Warrants issued or to be issued to Keenan + Cummings by reason of their failures to enter into contracts for the Improvements of Cherry + South 3rd Streets be + the same is hereby reconsidered. In favor of such reconsideration Day, Wusthuff + Rasin Against the same Harris + Ranke

The motion to retain $500.00 of any Warrants to be issued Keenen + Cummings or either of them is lost upon the following Vote towit: In favor of motion Harris + Ranke Against the same Day, Wusthuff, Rasin

Ordered that the Warrants already issued + in the hands of the Clerk favor Cummings + Strong on Columbia Street Improvement for $500.00 be delivered to the parties entitled thereto. In favor of said order Day, Wusthoff + Rasin. Against the same Ranke + Harris.

Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned until Friday August 17.1883 at 8 o'clock P.M.
