395 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Nov 2/83 In favor of adoption, Clancy, Day, McDonald, Rasin, & Wusthoff. Against adoption none. Ordered that the Attorney be & is hereby insructed to submit an Ordinance to fix the Salary of the Fire Warden at $150. a year. Miscellaneous Ordered that the Treasurer be & is hereby requested to pay all warrants in favor of Street Laborers out of any monies not other wise appropriated. Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned until Friday November 9, 1883 at 7&1/2 o'clock pm Attest E S Osborne clerk Approved H G Struve mayor Nov 9/83 Be it remembered that on this the 9th day of November 1883 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in i ts Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment. Referred to Street Committee. From the Seattle Street Railway Co. For the right to construct a street railway along Madison from Front to City Limits & along Mill & West Streets. Referred to Street Committee. From Geo R Smith et al for a fish stand foot of Washington Street. Denied Reports Rec'd From Health Officer submitting Annual report for the year ending June 30, 1883. 396 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Nov 9/83 [?] Oct 3, 1883 .Adopted From surveyor on Jackson Street Improvement #398 approved From Attorney on the protest of W C Hill against Jackson Street Improvement Assessment Roll #442. Approved Committee Reports From Judiciary Committee on the matter of charges against City Justice T H Cann. Adopted From Finance Committee recommending that Cisterns for Fire purposes be placed at corners of 5th & Washington, 4th & Madison, 3rd & University and Front & Bell Streets. Adopted From Street Committee recommending that $500.00 be allowed to Strong & Harkins on a/c change of grade in Madison Street. Report rejected. Licenses Granted Ordered that licenses be issued to the following named persons for the period of 3 months to wit: S A Scullin for Retail & 2 Billiard Tables from Nov 11/83 R Pritchard for Retail from Nov 16/83 Pritchard & Lester for Retail from Nov 17/83 Aug Wolff for grocery & 1 Pool & 1 Pigeon Hole Table from Nov 13/83 Smith & Farrar for Retail & 2 Billiard Tables from Nov 8/83 Cowles & Foster for Retail & 2 Billiard Tables from Nov 12/83 Aug Mattson for Retail from Nov 12/83 John Collins for Retail from Nov 8/83 Patrick O'Shea for Retail from Nov 13/83 Geo Peters for Retail from Nov 10/83 claims Paid The folowing claims having been duly audited by the Council are ordered paid by Warrants drawn on the funds in the amounts following , to wit: City Fund Western Union Telegraph Co Telegraph to Legislature $1.90 Herald Publishing Co Printing 4.50 Ebensold & Co Job Work 9. Ordered that the Clerk be & he is hereby instructed to re-advertise for bids for the Improvement of Columbia Street under Ordinance #476. Ordered that the order heretofore made & entered on page 390 authorizing the issuing of a Retail liquor license to H J Curtis be & the same is hereby revoked. Consideration of Ordinances An Ordinance us submitted by the Attorney to prevent the obstruction of Streets. re-referred to theAttorney with instructions to consult with Street Committee thereon. Attest: E S Osborne clerk Approved H G Struve mayor Nov 12/83 Be it remembered that on this the 12th day of November 1883 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment. The following Officers are present to wit: His Honor the Mayor H G Struve and Councilmen Thomas Clancy, B F Day, Charles McDonald, U M Rasin, Otto Ranke & F W Wusthoff. Thereupon the folowing proceedings are had: Ordered that the call of the regular order of business be suspended with and the Council proceed to the Considerataion of C B No 57 to amend the Charter of the City ; thereupon the Council proceeds with the consideration of said bill; thereupon after amending the said bill save & except Section 37 which said section the Council upon a tie vote fail to agree upon the apportionment of the Councilmen from the First & Second Wards. It is ordered that the Mayor be & is hereby instructed to deliver said bill as amended to the members of the Legislature from this County. Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned.
