for sidewalk constructed on Columbia Street, Adopted Licenses ordered issued Ordered that licenses be issued as follows: Peter Anderson & Co. for Retail liquors for 3 months from Jan 1, 1884 L. Diller for Retail liquors and 1 Billiard table for 3 months from Jan 16, 1884 R. Howard for Retail liquors for 3 months from Jan 3, 1884 Frank Lessman for Retail liquors for 3 months from Jan 13, 1884 T. B. Timony for Retail liquors for 3 months from Jan 7, 1884 Ordered that the Street Commissioner be & he is hereby instructed to lower sidewalk on South side of Washington Street fronting Geo. W. Youngs property. Ordered that the matter of considering the rights of 2 additional Councilmen appointed by Act of Legislature to seats as Councilmen be the same is laid over for special business tomorrow evening Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned until Thursday January 10, 1883 at 7-1/2 o'clock P. Osborne Clerk Jan 10/84 Be it remembered that on this the 10th day of January 1884 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment. The following Officers are present, to wit : His Honor the Mayor H. G. Struve and Councilman Thomas Clancy, B. F. Day, Geo. W. Harris, Chas McDonald, U. M. Rasin and F. W. Wusthoff. By reason of the inability, by illness of His Honor the Mayor to attend Councilman U. M. Rasin is appointed president of the Council to serve during the meeting.

under his resignation of the office of Councilman of the City of Seattle; thereupon said resignation is accepted. Whereupon comes B. L. Northrup a Councilman appointed in said Act of Legislature to represent the Third Ward of said City and in open Council tenders his resignation of the office of Councilman of the City of Seattle; thereupon said resignation is accepted. And now it appearing to the Council that a vacancy exists in the Office of Councilman from the 1st Ward, the Council proceeds to an election to fill such vacancy, Whereupon such election is held and John Keenen receiving all the votes of the members and the Council present, is duly declared elected to the office of Councilman from the 1st Ward to fill said vacancy for the term provided by law. And now comes John Keenen Councilman elect from the first Ward & after taking and subscribing his oath of office as such Councilman is assigned a seat as a member of the Council. And now it appearing to the Council that a vacancy exists in the Office of Councilman from the 3rd Ward, the Council proceeds to an election to fill such vacancy, Whereupon such election is held and B. L. Northrup receiving all the votes of the members of the Council present, is duly declared elected to the Office of Councilman from the 3rd Ward to fill said vacancy for the term provided by law. And now comes B. L. Northrup Councilman from the 3rd Ward & after taking and subscribing his oath of Office as such Councilman is assigned a seat as a member of the Council. And now the Roll of Councilman is had and the following are noted as present. Councilmen Thomas Clancy, B. F. Day, Geo. W. Harris, John Keenen, Chas McDonald, B. L. Northrup, U. M. Rasin and F. W. Wusthoff Petitions Rec'd From J.W. George et al for a gas lamp corner 4th and Cherry Street. Referred to Street Committee. Reports Rec'd From the Attorney on the matter of Jackson St Extension proceedings Referred to Finance Com tee [From?] [the?] [?] on the condition of Improvement Funds

JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Jan 10/84 Referred to Finance Com tee Licenses Granted Ordered that licenses be issued as follows towit : Shaw & Algar Retail for 3 months from Jan 9, 1884 Ordered that the matter approving certain Street Improvement Assessment Rolls be & is hereby laid over until Friday evening Jan 18, 1884 Ordered that Andrew Castro be authorized to retain Fish Stand foot of Columbia Street until May 1 84 by paying a monthly rental in advance of $10.00 Ordered that the claim allowed Anthony LeBrashe at last meeting be drawn out of City Fund. A report is rec'd from the Street Committee recommending the erection of a gas lamp corner 4th & Cherry Sts. Adopted. Claims Paid Fire Fund Gordan Hardware Co. Fire Bell for Columbia St Engine house $230.02 Consideration of Ordinances The council proceeds to consider an ordinanace entitled "A special Ordinance appropriating money to pay Audited bills," thereupon after due consideration the same is adopted upon the following vote, towit :In favor of adoption Clancy, Day, McDonald, Rasin, Ranke and Wusthoff. Against adoption none. The Judiciary Comtee submit an ordinance entitled "For vacating the alley through certain blocks"; thereupon after due consideration the same is adopted upon the following votes towit :In favor of adoption Clancy, Day, McDonald, Rasin, Ranke andWusthoff. Against adoption none. The Judiciary Committee submit an Ordinance entitled "To amend ordinance No. 499;" thereupon after due consideration the same is adopted upon the following vote, towit : In favor of adoption Clancy, Day, McDonald, Rasin, Ranke and Wusthoff.
