463 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE May 2/84 Be it remembered that on this the 2d day of May 1884 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law. The following officers are present, towit: his honor the mayor H.G. Struve and Councilmen Thos Clancy, B.F. Day, Geo. W. Harris, Charles McDonald, B.L. Northup, Otto Ranke, U.M. Rasin & F. W. Wusthoff. Thereupon the following proceedings are had Petitions Rec'd From U.A. Carr for correcting assessment. Referred to Finance Committee. From D.T. Denny et al for permission to grade Front Street from Lake Avenue to Kentucky Street, along Kentucky Street to Harrison Street, along Harrison Street to Temperance Street along Temperance Street to Bluff Street. Granted surveyor instructed to make the necessary surveys & establish the grade elevations. From Clayton Bros et al for a sidewalk on Front & Columbia Streets fronting Lot 8 Block 8 of Boren's plat. Referred to Street Committee. From W. Brackett et al against granting a license to R. Pritchard for a salon on Jackson Street. Referred to Committee on Licenses. From Robt Abrams et al for correction of errors in amount of cost[ of Battery Street Improvement & for an extension of time. Referred to Finance Committee. From O.C. Shorey for permission to raise sidewalk between Cherry & Columbia Streets. Referred to Surveyor. From W. Harkins for an allowance on a/c of 4th Street grade. Referred to Finance Committee to report this meeting. From John Hildebrand for the right to erect water tank foot of Jackson Street. Granted. Reports Rec'd. From Chief of Police on arrests. Adopted & Atty instructed to proceed to collect the delinquent taxes on said roll. From City Justice. Adopted. Committees Reports Read From Judiciary Committee recommending the vacation of the alley in Block 29 of Borens plat. Adopted & Atty instructed to submit an ordinace thereof. From Judiciary on matter of Attys salary recommending that the said salary be not raised. Adopted. From Committee on Public Buildings, Property and Grounds submitting a list of lots that can be purchased for a Pest House. Re-Committed to make a selection. From Street Committee recommending that the surveyor be instructed to submit estimates of cost for planking foot of Marion Street. Adopted. From Special Committee on Madison Street Extension asking further time. Granted. Licenses Ordered Issued. Ordered that licenses be issued as follows, towit: Bersch & Hink for retail liquors for 3 months from May 1. Louis Sylvania for retail liquors for 3 months from May 7. Dahlquist & Johnson for retail liquors for 3 months from Apr 23 Wm. Grose for retail liquors for 3 months from May 1. C.H. Hill for retail liquors for 3 months from Apr 26. Coffin & Co for Grocery for 3 months from Apr 28 Thos Anderson for grocery for 3 months from May 24. P. Grubb for retail for 3 months from May 1. Fred Voight for grocery for 3 months from May 1. Claus & Harns for wholesale for 3 months from May 1. Claus & Harns for retail for 3 months from May 1. John Feigh for retail for 3 months from May 8. Miscellaneous. Councilman Rasin submits the following motion to wit: Whereas there has appeared in the public press of this City a Statement purporting to have been made at a public meeting of Seattle Fire Company No 1, by F W Wusthoff a number of this Council to the effect first that the Ordinances organizing the Fire Department of this City was passed in an improper manner. That the Ordinance was bulldozed through the Council by a certain man. That after the Ordinance was passed it was reworded in the Mayor's Office and published as remodeled and not as passed. That the passage of the ordinance was intended as corruption. that Mr Wusthoff knows of several corruptions which have recently come to light. That the ordinance is a corrupt scheme to carry a certain man back into Council And whereas these statements contain very grave charges against the chief Executive Officer of this City and aginst the council as a body. Now that a Specail Committee consisting of Mr Clancy, Mr McDonald and Mr Northrup with Mr Northrup as Chairman be appointed to ascertain whther such statements were so made by Mr Wusthoff, and if they were so made To demand the proofs of the charges against the Mayor, a Statement
