494 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE June17/84 An ordinance is submitted entitled "To amend Section one (1) of Ordinance No 502" after due consideration said ordinance is adopted upon the following vote to wit: In favor of adoption Clancy, Day, Keenen, McDonald, Northrup, Ranke, Rasin & Wusthoff. An Ordinance is submitted to authorize a contract with the Spring Hill Water co for water for fire purposes Ordered that the Attorney confer with Chief of Fire Department & submit such an Ordinance s may be agreed upon An ordiance to condem old cemetary & turn same into a Park is referred to a special comtee to wit: [Day]], Ranke & McDonald to ascertain the cost of removing bodies. Report of Chief of Fire Dept referred to Wusthoff, Day & Keenen An ordinance is submitted entitled "To appropriate fifteen hundred dollars to be used for the purpose of paying existing indebtedness against the City on account of lighting, cleaning and repairing the streets of the City" after due consideration said Ordinance is adopted upon the following vote to wit: In favor of adoption Clancy, Day, Keenen,McDonald, Ranke & Wusthoff. Against adoption Northrup & Rasin. 495 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE June 23/84 From G T Magnimins et al for granting a retail liquor license to R Pritchard for house on Jackson Street East end. rejected From Lowman & Colt et al for preventing the sale & use of firecrackers Referred to Fire Comtee From Seifert & Delfel for erecting a barber pole. Referred to Street Comtee Remonstrances From L S Rowe et al against grading Howell, 10th & Bismark Sts. Referred to Street Comtee Communications From the Acting Mayor returning an Ordinance entitled "To appropriate fifteen hundred doallars to be used for the purpose of paying existing indebtedness against the ciyt in account of lighting, cleaning & repairing the streets of the City" without his approval and with his objections in writing to such approval which objections are as follows, to wit: Office of the Mayor City of Seattle June 20, 1884 To the Honorable Common Council of the City of Seattle I have the honor to return herewith without my approval Ordinance No entitled "To appropriate fifteen hundred doallars to be used for the purpose of payingexisting indebtedness against the ciyt in account of lighting, cleaning & repairing the streets of the City" My objections to the Ordinance are First: There is no such indebtedness existing against the City of Seattle as is mentioned in the Ordinance. Second: The expenditure contemplated by the Ordinance is not warranted by our city Charter. 496 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE June 25/84 petition of G A Weed et al for modifying grade of Street Railway & recommend that the surveyor submit all changes before July 1, 1884 adopted Licenses Ordered issued Ordered that licenses be issued as follows to wit: C P Stone for Wholesale license for 6 months from July 1, 1884 John Collins for retail license for 3 months from June 25 Carl Osiman for retail license for 6 months from June 20 Consideration of Ordinances An Ordinance is submitted Entitled "An ordinance to establish the grade on a portion of Kentucky and Temperance Streets" After due consideration said ordinance is adopted upon the following vote to wit: In favor of adoption Clancy Day, Harris, Keenen, McDonald, Northrup, Ranke & Wusthoff. Against adoption none. An ordinance is submitted entitled "To provide for grading a portion of Front , Kentucky, Harrison & Temperance Streets" After due consideration said ordinance is adopted upon the following vote to wit: In favor of adoption Clancy Day, Harris, Keenen, McDonald, Northrup, Ranke & Wusthoff. Against adoption none. An Ordinance is submitted entitled "An Ordinance to establish the grade on a portion of Fifth Street" After due consideration said ordinance is adopted upon the following vote to wit: In favor of adoption Clancy Day, Harris, Keenen, McDonald, Northrup, Ranke & Wusthoff. Against adoption none. AnOrdinance is submitted entitles "To provide for the grading of and for building a sidewalk on each side of a portion of Fifth Street" After due consideration said ordinance is adopted upon the following vote to wit: In favor of adoption Day, Harris, Keenen, McDonald, Northrup, Ranke & Wusthoff. Against adoption Clancy Ordered that the council stand adjourned until Wednesday June 25, 1884 at 8 o'clock pm the the special purpose of acting on the Ordinance authorizing a Contract with the Spring Hill Water Co for water.
