639 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Engine Co No 2 is broken recommending that a new bell be purchased. Ordered that the Clerk with the advise of His Honor the Mayor & the Chief of the fire department purchase a new bell. A petitionid rec'd from Geo K Beede for the transfer of his Retail liquor license for the saloon Corner Columbia & Front Streets to Geo McConnell & Co. Petition denied. A petition is rec'd from Adam Orth et al asking that Peter Bunn be appointed & a Special Police office. Referred to Police Comtee And now the Council proceeds with the examination and equalization of the assessmentt Rolls for the year 1885 Ordered that the following changes be made on said roll: James Dougan reduced on mortgage to $40. J S Maggs reduced on lands 2 acres taken off also amount of Iprovements $500. taken off O G Root to be assessed on mortgage to $40. E Still to be reduced on mortgage to $75. Geo Misener to be reduced in Improvements to $800. H A Bigelow to be raised on Improvements to $800. J W Edwards to be reduced on mortgage to $240. Ordered that the following named persons be notified to appear Tomorrow evening. P Wickestrom, W D Wood, Joseph F McNaught & James McNaught Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned until Tuesday May 26, 1885 at 8 o'clock pm AttestE S Osborne Approved John Leary mayor

640 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Be it remembered that on this the 29th day of May 1885 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chambers pursuant to adjournment. The following officers are present towit: His Honor the Mayor John Leary and Councilmen Geo F Frye, W A Harrington, Alfred Snyder, E F Sox, H L Yesler, W G Latimer, W V Rinehart and S D Crockett Thereupon the following proceedings are had: And now the council proceeds with the examination and equalization of hte Assessment roll for the year 1885. Ordered that the following changes be made on said roll John Collins reduced on Hotel Improvements to $25,000. Chas McDonald reduced on Improvements to $300. Ellen K Marshall reduced on Improvements to $6500. P Wickstrom reduced on mortgage to $100. J F McNaught reduced on mortgage to $4370. W D Wood reduced on mortgage to $60. W D Wood reduced on mortgage to $350. Catholic Church reduced on lot to $1300. Catholic Church reduced on organ to $800. James McNaught reduced on mortgage to $8679. W H Reeves reduced on mortgage to $5400. James M Colman reduced on mortgage to $720. W A Harrington reduced on mortgage to $2500. Margaret Sidney reduced on mortgage to $210. Est of S W Horey reduced on mortgage to $350. Dan'l Bagley reduced on mortgage to $850. Fred Sander reduced on mortgage to $3320. Joseph Morrison assessment to be corrected reduced $30. H L Yesler reduced $1060. Ordered that the following named persons be notified to appear & answer questions regarding their assessments on Monday June 1, 1885 at 8 o'clock pm Ordered that the City Atty be & is hereby granted an extension of time until Monday evening next in which to formulate charges against Chief of Police J H Woolery

641 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE A petition rec'd from R C Grimes regarding the drain from Lot 6 Blk 7 of Boren's plat. Referred to sewer comtt Ordered that the Chief of Police be & is hereby instructed to proceed against George Bigelow for a nuisance maintained on Lots Corner Main & South 4th Streets. Ordered that the City Atty and Surveyor examine the premises above mentioned before the Chief of Police proceeds to abate such nuisance The Street Comtee returns the plat of "W C Hills addition to the City of Seattle with their approval. Ordered that said report be approved. Ordered that Fred E Sanders assessment be increased Wednesday evening june 3rd 1885 And now E F Sox as chairman of Police Comtee files written article for the Impeachment of James H Woolery as Chief of Police, thereupon said Articles are read and said James H Woolery pleads not guilty to the [?] Ordered that an investigationof said charges be had by Wednesday June 3, 1885 at 8 o'clock pm
