27 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE June 12 1886 Be it remembered that on this the 12th day of June 1886 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment The following officers are present His Honor the MayorH L Yesler, and Councilmen R H Calligan, G W Hall, T W Lake and G W Young There being no quroum present present it is ordered that the council adjourn until Monday June 18th at 8 o'clock pm H L Yesler mayor attest W R Forrest clerk Jun 14 1886 Be it remembered that on this the 14th day of June 1886 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment The following officers are present His Honor the MayorYesler, and Councilmen R H Calligan, J Furth, G W Hall, W A Harrington, T W Lake, Chas McDonald and G W Young The minutes of the previous meetings were read and approved Petitions etc Petition of Geo Carter et al & S & S Parkhurst et al representing I O G T Lodge No 6 and the W T C U of this city praying for permission to erect a public drinking fountain of the value of $200.00 at the outer edge of the sidewalk in front of the Safe Deposit Building on Front Street read and referred to Street Committee Petition of W H Pumphrey et al for five (5) additional fire plugs on Union and Eighth Streets read and referred to Committee on Fire & Water Communicationfrom J Campbell making certain charges against Street Commissioner Cummings and read and referred to Judiciary Committee Report of the Custodian of the Powder House for month

28 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Jun 14 1886 of May received, read and ordered approved and filed. Committee Reports Received From Committee on Fire and Water recommending that the petition of A L Palmer et al for a fire plug Corner of Third and Leonora Streets be granted. adopted Finance Commitee makes a verbal reprot that it is the sense of the Committee that the bonds for building the Beach Road Bridge be issued and that the bid of E B Browning & Co therefor be accepted. Adopted and On motion of Councilman Furth the City Attorney is directed to submit an ordinance authorizing the issue of bonds for the purpose of constructing the Beach Road Bridge Licenses Ordered Issued Oliver Bernard Retail Intox 3 months from June 27 The vote upon issuing said license is as follows: In favor of same Calligan, Furth, Hall, Harrington Lake, McDonald & Young. Against none. Applications for License Referred E J Powers & Co, Jo Francisco, Frank Wilton, Davidson & Morgan, Jacob Bersch, Mrs John Osborne, John Brannan, John Collins and J Armstrong Claims Allowed The following claims aginst the City having been duly audited and allowed by the Council are ordered paid by warrants drawn as follows to wit: Gardner Kellogg No 852 Fire Fund $75.00 Salary Chief G Kellogg & Co No 853 Fire Fund $7.oo Supplies No2 Miscellaneous On motion of Councilman Furth it is declared the sense of the Council that a Fire Alarm system be established in the City and the matter is referred to the Committee on Fire and Water on motion of Councilman Hall

29 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Jun 14 1886 Councilman Lake submits a proposal of the Gutta Percha & Rubber Mfg Co for furnishing the City a new hose cart. On motion the matter is referred to the Committee on Fire & Water. The City Surveyor submits plans and specifications for Beach Road Bridge which are adopted and on motion the Clerk is directed to advertise for bids for the Construction of the same, said bid to be filed on or before 4 o'clock pm June 25th 1886 each of said bids to be accompanied by a certifired check for $1000. The mayor approved G W Hall a member of the Jusdiciary Committee in place of John Keenen absent from the City. Ordinances The City Attorney submits an ordinance entitled "An ordinance to locate and establish a Public Street extending from the intersection of Eighth & Plummer Streets to the intersection of Grant and Hinds Streets in the City of Seattle" which afterr due consideration is adopted by the following vote: In favor of said ordinance Calligan, Furth, Hall, Harrington Lake, McDonald and Young. Against none An ordinance is submitted by the City Attorney entitled "An ordinance to Vacate a portion of Tenth Street in Judkins Addition to the City of Seattle" which is passed by the following vote: In favor of the same Calligan, Furth, Hall, Harrington, Lake, McDonald and Young. Against none The Clerk submits an ordinance entitled "A special ordinance appropriating money to pay audited bills" which is adopted passed by the following vote: Ayes Calligan, Furth, Hall, Harrington, Lake, McDonald and Young. Nos none Ordered that Council adjourn until Monday June 21st at 8 o'clock pm H L Yesler mayor Attest W R Forrest clerk
